You Like Me! My People’s Choice Winning Image

Underwater photo of a woman’s legs and high heels floating in a pool.
Thank you, fine people! I am so honored to win the People’s Choice award for this image at the APA San Diego Untitled 2018 photographic exhibition. It’s especially meaningful when it comes from the attendees on the night of the show – a happy surprise at the end of a really great evening.

The event is near and dear to me, since I am the Chapter President of the APA|SD. Every year we put a lot of work into making this show happen. There were hundreds of entries this time – over 400, our biggest yet. Our judge Thomas Werner curated the top 20 images into a one-night exhibition and silent auction. I’m always hoping an image of mine makes it and I’m 7 for 8 shows so far! To be among the top 20 is great and to win People’s Choice is even more fantastic. Truly honored.

The image is from an ongoing personal project of exploring unexpected narratives from below the water’s surface. It’s been a fun and frustrating process that I feel I’ve barely started. I’m not sure where it leads but so far I’m loving (and sometimes hating) it.

Big thanks to all that help make this show a success. And thank you to MOPA for the family membership prize package. Awesome stuff!
